Neither did Christianity (need a reformation) until the catholic church was created, and Islam did not until al ghazali or whatever stated that mathematics was satanic. Now they are far backwards in comparison to Europe and have been for many years. This is why, as much contempt as I hold for religion in general, I really scorn the catholic church.

Well, I think Islam is in line with realism, as noted by many scholars spawning after its inception. Unlike Christianity there was no need for a "reformation" to bring valuable science. Though at times it may seem off the path of realism it very much is and will stay in line with it.
